I got ticks on my ferrets every time I got sawdust or hay from Tesco! Started getting it from Home Bargains for a quarter the price and hardly ever get them now!

Give them a good clean out and try hay and sawdust from another shop pal.

Well what I would do is treat them all with frontline spray. Get rid of all the bedding. Give the hutch a good clean and spray some frontline down any gaps etc in the hutch where they may be hiding. Use dust extracted shavings what they use for horses theyre better. Use shredded paper for bedding or blanket or two in this weather.

Yeah. I have an indoor setup, but i will be sticking to it even if mine are outdoor again. Lino cut to the floor size/shape (usually free, from off cuts if you you ask around) fleeces from a pound shop for bedding - machine washable (avoid in-tact hobs though haha stinky) and a litter box in the shit corner (detachable but fixed in place) with some sort of absorbent wood based litter. Never tried it without a litter tray, if they crap right against the wall it will still rot the wood.... but you could always try attaching vertical bits of lino to the edge of that corner? Glue maybe? Anyway, lino wipes down nicely when you give them a big clean out.

If going for a litter box - An empty plastic box in the corner will catch the crap if you empty it very often - they dont like to stand in their own piss. Ill be honest, using a litter is costing me at the moment. Mainly because im paying more for a dust free litter. Other cheaper wood litter gets everywhere. Anything that clumps should be avoided because they will wipe their ass in it and apparently can block them up. Plus some can poison them if eaten. So it needs to be wood pellet really. If anyone else has cheaper suggestions for the litter box please let me know.

I knew a gamekeeper that had cut out the corner and fitted a mesh so all the crap fell under the hutch onto a tray. It worked, they used it. but i felt he was cleaning the mesh off just as often as you would normally.... or at least he should have been!

It'll be the bedding your buying mate iv never used it but iv heard its the worst bedding for it. At this time of year I just put loads of shavings in the bed they make a wee bed in it and its fine as long ad your hitch is warm and draught free. In the winter I go to the greyhound track and you get a big compressed paper bale for under a 10er and it lasts the winter

About £16 a month. Pets at homes stuff comes to about £12 or something but is quite dusty. I use about 40 litres a month.

If I wasn't so lazy and scooped it rather than just pour away a refill it it might last longer haha.

I get this stuff from amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002OSSO7C/ref=rcxsubs_mys2_product_title. I am paying about £11 a bag as i have the save and subscribe option which means i get 2 bags sent every 3 months, free delivery and a 10% discount. Good stuff, is the pellet type and soaks in the smell as well as the piss/crap. I normally pick the crap out and then empty the litter fully after a couple of days
