skycat 6,174
Surely anyone with half a brain can see if a dog is over-heating? Tongue a mile out, dark red in colour, panting like hell, or even worse, not panting much at all which means the dog has gone past that stage and is very dehydrated and on the point of collapse. Also, who would seriously try and give their dog a hard work out in this weather? Quite apart from anything else heat stroke can cause long term organ damage. OK, if the dog is super fit, acclimatized to hot weather, it can tolerate heat better than an unfit dog, but it is still madness to exercise a dog hard in this weather, even during the evenings when the ground is still giving off heat that has built up during the day. High humidity after rain doesn't help much either even if the temperature has gone down a little. Maybe read up on how to get a dog fit: slow and steady to begin with and above all: regular exercise, not just the odd hard workout now and again. Fitness is built up slowly, not in a rush. The only hard exercise mine get in this weather is swimming: one of them is so bloody fit he needs to swim constantly for nearly 20 minutes keep him happy: daft bugger There's a down side in dogs being too fit in summer as well: but he'd bounce off the walls no matter what: luckily he's ball mad. Only thing is it does nothing to toughen up their pads. Quote Link to post

paulus 26
the dog had water when out but thanks for the ear bashing everyone makes or is it just me only asked for advise not a bollocking mum. better a bollocking than a dead dog, its not just about giving the dog a drink you need to cool the whole dog down once it starts to overheat.
