How Do You Keep Your Ferrets Cool?

Recommended Posts

Don't know how you keep your ferrets cool in this weather but here's what I do.

Freeze a bottle over night then in it goes during the day, all the hutches are double roofed and have sunshades

not the best picture in the world I know, taken through the fly screen!!

Frozen bottles are a good idea, some people then put them into a sock but I'm not sure why could ferrets stick to the bottle? haha

Mine are opting to sleep on the bottom floor of the cage, under a fleece against the lino. When I let them out they get a bit crazy and I suspect heat up so I run cold water on my hand and stroke them down, not sure how much it helps though.

Hi Bruce. I have put up a cheap gazebo and positioned it to cover the hutches to keep the sun directly off them. I put a blanket over the hutches and soak it with the hose every couple of hours. Then I place a Tupperware tub in the hutch to let them jump in and out of. Lastly I rub a bit of factor 30 in to them and give them some tiny raybans. lol. Sorry mate couldn't resist. Hope you are well.

Didn't expect anything different from you pat  splashing out a bit with the raybans !! The kits are eating me out of house and home, mince and rabbit at the moment, can't get out often enough to shoot enough rabbits though, their not to keen on pigeon either :cray:

Mate, I am having the same problem. The mince is a bit pricey and they are demolishing it, I cant get any bunnies as my big permission has the bloody RSPCA down there looking at the Badger sets and my smaller permission has got a couple of people on the land for a few weeks so I am stuffed. I am seriously thinking of going out and hacking up a couple of people to see me through. :icon_eek:

Plenty of permission and bunnies on the permissions just can't get out at em at the right time of day, decoyed pigeons for a couple of hours Friday but the kits are fussy buggers and aren't keen on pigeon breasts. Woundn't want to feed them on any of the people living round here, god knows what toxins they'd be addicted to after eating some of this lot!!

Got to go in for another op in a couple of weeks so leaving the kids to cope with the kits when they'll be at the right handful stage, should be out just when it's time to find new homes for the little blighters, I did feed the staffie a couple of locals when he was a pup and that's probably why he's nutty as a fruit cake, he still likes to taste anyone who ventures in the back gate so he must have liked the flavour!!
