but wouldent a lurcher in training benifit from a high protein percentage say as much as 27% or maby a little higher aslong as the dog is getting sufficent exercise.

That % would have your dogs bouncing off the walls  The dog would have to be covering the kind of mileage a sheepdog or husky would to burn off that %. Been there and wouldn't do it again, forget dry and change to raw :D

i run my dogs on 27% redmills

ive tried loads of combinations and just put my dogs on vitalin worker for breakfast only a small amount mixed with all green and keepers mix and sunflower oil. raw rabbit lamb beef steak and mince alternatered every night with chicken wings thighs legs and ribs. the dogs are in mint nick but they have to be excercised or they go mental. on dry one of the dogs had a wheat allergy and got lumps after only two days it cleared on feeding this combination :toast: To Sh**e with dry . the vitalin is all natural and museli basedwith 12 percent meat and marrow and only 18% protein it works for me and the dogs are lean and fit as owt rock hard condition

Im told that a dog can only use 17.5% protein anyway. Dont just go off what protein it has, the dogs need the full package. But the best condition my dogs have ever been in was when your were on meat 6 nights a week then 1 night of dry food. they seemed to put weight on in a different way and muselled out very well.

No expert on hunting dogs...but i believe what matters most is where the protein comes from such as whole meat (which is good) or animal derivitives sp which is shite, but looking into other types of working dogs,at the moment they are raving on about raw fat being the best source of energy.

Yes this is a good feed RED MILLS RACER 27% protien and SUPA GREYHOUND 20% for resting.Supa greyhound is the best resting food I have found.Have had dogs on RED MILLS XCEL 32% protien,Its ok for a short time but only if you are really working the dogs for its muscles to require that amount of protien. Also over protien in a dog can reduce stamina.Have a contact for Redmills if anyone is interested. My Lurchers lived on supa greyhound and pascoe's for years and worked well before I found redmills.
