Dog Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I've just spent an hour today looking for insurance for my lurcher bitch.

The best i could find was with Argos and it was there gold plan which gives cover of up to £2500 for each injury or ailment and has an excess of £50. It covers of heap of other situations such as third party and accidental damage.

The cost of it is £7.80 per month or £94 a year.

Thought i'd just share it with you all in case anybodys interested.

Shepp :victory:

My vet reccomended Marks & Spencer to me, £10 per month, £5000 cover and £50 excess. Apparently most insurance company's are dubious about renewing your policy if you have had a couple of claims but M & S are meant to be fine. :D

Handy to have just incase, my dog ate 2lb of raw bacon when he was 3 months  that cost nearly £200  to put right!!!!

i am with more than and its £6500 and i think £70 excess, it covers any ongoing illness not just for the first year and covers the dog for life not just untill it is 8 unlike most other insurances.

How much does that set you back John?

Just a quick question did any of you specify that you're dog is a working dog?.

The reason I ask is a mate of mines insurance company refused to pay out on a claim because the injury was sustained while working, he told the vet he was lamping rabbits when the dog hit a piece of angle iron.

The vet then had to pass on the info to the insurance company.

And does anybody know of an insurance company that deals with working dogs?

Cheers Mike...

had only bad news were insuring the dogs is concerned lost my little terrier and they wouldnt pay out check the small print very carefully with these companies trying to get dosh off them when you need it most can be hard work they are allright taking it but try getting them to give you dosh and they will give you plenty of reasons why you aint covered for that perticular accident.

I've never had mine insured in the past but after a massive internal bleed for the bitch earlier this year I've decided to change my opinion. I was presuming that NFU would be more accepting of possible working injuries too. Hoping to sort it out next week so will post when I find out more.
