Recommended Posts

Anglers are well catered for at Shanes Castle this year not only in terms of tackle stands but also in terms of the representative organisations whiich will exhibit. Casting demos and competitions are in the capable hands of Stevie Munn and Glenda Powell and the organisations present include :

"FISSTA SAYS ALL ROADS LEAD TO IRELAND 'S PREMIER GAME FAIR AT SHANE’S CASTLE ON SAT 29th JUNE 2013

The Chairman of Ireland's Premier Angling body - FISSTA (Federation of Irish Salmon and Sea Trout Anglers) Mr. Paul Lawton, is delighted to announce once again their participation in the Irish Game Fair at the very special venue of SHANE’S CASTLE. "This annual event is along with Birr Castle the highlight of our country sports season where we meet our angling club members to discuss and monitor the early season salmon and seatrout runs and returns from the great salmon and sea trout rivers of Ireland . It is a very special time for FISSTA to promote the salmon angling sport and support youth angling along with all the other organisations from north and south of Ireland .

WHY ANGLERS WILL ATTEND?

Anglers from all the main rivers and clubs of Ireland now gather at Shane’s Castle to participate at The Irish Game Fair in a Castle atmosphere to meet and exchange notes on developments in salmon and seatrout angling and conservation. The fair has built up a huge following over the past few years as a venue where clubs and businesses can promote their brand of sport angling to a fast growing market of angling enthusiasts who are planning already for the 2014 season. This is where all issues are raised and addressed by club members who travel to what is now Ireland's premier country sports event in Northern Ireland on the countryside calendar for anglers. The Great Game Fairs of Ireland partnered with the premier magazine Irish Country Sports and Country Life which features our quarterly newsletter allows us to spread the FISSTA message of angling to a very broad country sports fraternity who support us in our everyday work. We are most grateful to Shane’s Castle excellent team at the fair and magazine for providing such professional fora and for their much valued support and cooperation in helping FISSTA to bring salmon and seatrout angling message to a wider public. Ends.

Ulster Angling Federation at the Fair

The Federation was founded in the 1930s to provide a central body through which game anglers could protect and promote their sport. The Federation currently have some 60 member clubs representing circa 7,000 anglers. Our aims are 1. To protect and conserve fisheries, and protect the rights of rod anglers. 2. To promote co-operation and good relationships between all anglers. 3. To aid the establishment of angling associations. 4. To secure representation of anglers at all levels. 5. To lobby Government and other bodies on fishery and angling issues. 6. To co-operate with fishery conservation, and other bodies to further our aims.

The Federation will attend the fair to meet with its members and hear their concerns. Also to promote the work of the Federation and encourage other clubs to join.
I have attached a photo of myself as the Development Officer. If required you will get more information from our website Ulster Angling Federation

No to Salmon Nets in Irish Seas

The NSN team are delighted to have been given the opportunity to meet with the public at the Shanes Castle game fair again this year. We would like to thank Albert and the team for the help and support they have given, and continue to give us.
Our main topic at the show will be to ask the public to support us by signing our petition and add their weight to our efforts at lobbying the justice minister David Ford into ensuring poachers and polluters, especially industrial polluters, are dealt with more stringently when brought before the courts.
NSN believe that the biggest deterrent to these offenders would be commensurate monetary fines which truly reflect the damage that poaching and pollution does to our waterways and the wild fish stocks which we all know are in serious decline.
So, please call in to our stand and have a chat with the team and help us to protect our rivers!

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
