Operation 'former Glory' - Part 1

It will be nice to see the finished rifle, do you think the original blueing might of been damaged ?

Not sure, but using the nitro-mors to get it off will probably take off any blue that was there before...

I'm not sure if the shroud and bottle are blued or if they are some sort of spray coating, at least i was sensible enough not to do the action so that dosnt need touching

Could you not try removing the camouflage with something less harsh on the barrel, maybe caustic soda ?

I'm pretty sure that most bottles aren't blued but have some sort of powdered paint thats been lacquered, if you want you could try taking it right back and polishing the Aluminium to a high shine.

Don't forget that if you do decide to paint Aluminium you need to treat it with a etch primer first of it will just start flaking off !

:hmm:

yes im starting to wonder what ill do for the bottle and shroud, probably just use the nitro as I have it to hand :D, with the stock i think its had a tan spay coat for a base layer so I bet the bottle and shroud have too

Stock update

All ghastly camo removed :boogy:

A bonus is that as the original surface was sprayed over and dipped... the stock is already super smooth!!

so I have given it a good going over with 0000 and here it has had a quick wipe down with white spirit to remove any grease etc.

Looks fantastic!! I dont even think ill need to stain it

Going to leave it to dry out for 24hrs then re asses

but very pleased so far

Outstanding effort mate! Takes some bottle to go attacking your pride and joy like that so really glad it turned out ok for you. That stock looks like it had never been painted so you have done a really good job.
