Farney Harriers Dog Show And Race Day In Dundalk Last Sunday The 9Th June 13

Recommended Posts

Started off from home earley last Sunday morning the 9th June. Met up with a few friends along the way, stopped off at Mc Donalds in Newry for breakfast

and continued on our journey to the lady on our Sat Nav informed us we were coming the end of the motorway. As we approached our destination, deep in the roaming Dundalk countryside, there nestled in the bed of the beautiful Cooley Mountains was the venue for the 2nd annual Farney Harriers Dog show and Race day. The sun shone on us all day, and very soon the field was full to capacity with cars ,trailers, dogs, and families.

The organisation was impeccable. Showing and racing went without a hitch, and on top of it all, God blessed us with the beautiful weather. This year was no different from last year. There was a large attendance, both of Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets, Hounds and Pets.

There was Toilet facilities and a PA System second to none. It was nice to meet old friends, but it was also nice to make so many new ones.

There were many outstanding moments at this show on Sunday, but the highlight of the day for me was the dog owners race. This was split into to sections, one race for the men and one for the women. Well really this was hilarious. I never laughed so much in a very long time, watching grown up men and women running chasing after a lure, just like their Canine companions.

A big congratulations to Rochelle Duffy from Dublin, on winning the ladies race, and also congratulations to the gentleman who won the mens race. I did not get his name. Mickey Quinn from Lurgan also ran in the mens race, and Mickey you did us Northerners proud. As fit as a fiddle. This was a fun filled event and should be run at more shows up and down the country.Well done to the winners and all who took Part.

The showing commenced at 1.30, followed by the racing.

As soon as I get the rest of the results, I will put them up.

And Finally, many thanks to Geraldine Barry who was the master of cermonies yesterday. Geraldine you carried out your duties with superb effeciency and kept everybody well informed with all the classes etc, and well what can I say of the PA system. It was the best I have heard at any dog Show I have attended, and I have been at many over the years. A great thought and very successful. I would also like to thank Liam Murphy, Lisa Neville and all the Farney Harriers committe who made us all so welcome on the day and took care of our every need. To John Lip Rooney. You are one of natures gentlemen, and your help and kindness to our Nothern folk outside the ring has not gone unoticed. Many thanks to the Judges Jed Donagh Lurchers/ John Lip Rooney Whippets/ Terrier Judge/ and Hound & Pet Judge, dident get your names. The task of judging is not easy, but you all did a brilliant job as usual.

And last, but not least, we cannot forget to thank the owner of the land Mr Gerald Mc Ardle. Without you Gerald the show would not be possible. A big thank you on behalf of the Canine folk and show goers and the Farney Harriers club and committe for your generosity. A memorable day and show was had by all, and I am already looking forward to next years. Well done Farney Harriers and committe.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
