Fussy Eater...

When I got my Beddy Greyhound Kai he was about 20 months and had previously NOT been a fussy eater.

 

However on day 1 he wouldn't eat his meat and rice. On day 2 I offered the same again with a few biscuits and he picked out a handful of the biscuits and left the meat.

 

On day 3 I offered just chicken wings and he refused. On day 4 I offered the chicken wings again and he wolfed them down.

 

Now he eats everything and never leaves a morsel in his bowl. Pasta, veg, rice, biscuits, meat, fish, tripe, eggs etc.

 

The dog won't starve itself and will eat what you give it in time.

You could use some yoghurt to make the dog food more appealing to him. That's what I do with the dogs. Works great, just don't overdo it. A little bit mixed with his food will get you a long way.

Creating a dog that is a fussy eater is not good for dog or owner. In your case there are two issues, one a dog that has been allowed to become a fussy eater and two your wish to add complete to the diet. Id start by cutting down the amount you feed at the next main meal by 50% and include a small amount of the complete you intend to use. After 20 minutes remove any uneaten food and discard. Do this until it is clearing all the food. Once this is happening start to increase the volume to near the normal amount whilst gradually increasing the proportion of complete over a week or so until you have reached the percentage you intend to use.

If it starts to get picky again think about how much you are feeding in total as it is likely just too much.

Mine will occasionally leave some complete if they have plenty of other stuff in the bowl but its usually down to the missus feeding them some days and she gives them enough to fill an elephant.

I think this the main issue which causes fussy eating...pups being given too much to eat and a constant stream of uncooked, cooked, complete, treats, scraps and the like...total overload ...owner getting stressed, trying this, that and the other...don't think I have ever heard of a dog starving itself to death...just stick it's food down give it 15/20 mins and lift it...

They will normally eats what's put down before they will eat there front legs

This is a real problem for me since Trev got ill. Now it's a chore to get him to eat so I say fec em let them go hungry and then feed but keep an eye on the weight and don't go to many days without feeding

 

At this time Trev is eating perfect for a few days and then going two days nibbling

I've had him from 7 weeks old and he's now 15 months and always been fussy, it's not what I've made him its how he is. I've never had this before with any other dog, so not really known how to deal with it. He eats enough but it's always the same meat.some good ideas so I will try and see how we get on. Thanks.
