dorsetchap.22 14
Hi every one now before the jokes start i have a smk b2 which i have been given i have sanded down the stock to remove scratches and that horrid brown but what i would like to know is what would be the best way to re dress the stock ie varnish/wood stain or a light clear varnish just to give it a nice clean look any ideas would be appreciated Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Just stain the stock to your taste and linseed oil over the top. The stock's the least of your problems though. I was given a B2 a while ago and the thing was utterly f***ing useless as a rifle. However, after a good strip down, cleaned all of the crap out that was in there, dressed up all of the rough parts (which was pretty much everything), cutting the spring down so there was hardly any pre-load, new seals and a properly lubed up re-assemble, I did end up with a half decent rifle that has helped teach my boys how to shoot. I'm not having a go as it sounds like you were in the same position as me. I'd never in a million years recomend anyone to buy one but if you do end up with one, after a bit of work they can be OK for what they are. Welcome to the forum. 1 Quote Link to post
deanothehunter 34
I had one too once, and like Andy above said they need a good stripdown file all the rough burred edges etc re lube............I did the same sanded stock down to bare wood re stained in walnut dye then used 60% satin varnish and 40% white spirit mix and wiped on with a finger inside an old rag / t-shirt, buff lightly once dry then repeat process untill it looks respectable which is hard for the old B2 lol.......... dorsetchap.22 14
long shot chaps but if i used say two pieces of 4x4 an some long bolt would that work as a spring compressor as i dont think the ones i use to do cars will fit some how i just want to make it my own while i save for somethink else Quote Link to post
dorsetchap.22 14
some told me that if i make the trigger spring shorter it will lighten the trigger up abit is this true or just myth hear say chap i have a old oak beam out of a cottage i was thinking of useing to make a stock bit i think it would be wasted on this gun atleast Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
You shouldn't need a spring compressor, it's not under too much pre-load if it's standard and shortening the trigger spring will make no difference at all to it's release weight. Quote Link to post
