Fishing The Channel Islands

Recommended Posts

We're off to Guernsey in August to visit the wife's family, her cousins are keen fishermen and I've been invited out on some trips both on boats and a couple of days kayaking, I've been on a charter trip to Alderney years back and the fishing was fantastic, so I'm already exited to get out to Guersey lol

Any of you lads fished out on the Channel Islands?

I arranged the trip to Alderney about 10 years ago now, it was brilliant, brother ended up with his pic in sea angler for a big turbot..

Went to Guernsey a few years back for a family wedding but no chance to fish, this time though it will be every day..

Your right Banter it's a lovely place to go.

I've been to Sark a couple of times and spent most of the time spinning off the rocks, loads of wrasse and beautiful scenery, I could have stayed there for months! great little fighters on light tackle!

I live in jersey guys, boats are the way forward really because the piers are all taken up by the local Portuguese and polish, and unless you tell them where to go u will have a hard time getting a spot, not sure what its like in guernsey, however there are alot of unifficial spots I have found when I was a kid, best way is find a bit of water and plonk your lure in :)! If it was jersey I could have helped u find somewhere sorry mate :)

Cheers Craig, the wife's uncle and a cousin have boats plus he cousin we're staying with has offered to take me kayaking.. So I'm hoping between them they might put me on a fish or 2 lol... Can't wait to get over I've only been Geurnsey once, but loved it.. And Alderney was a great weekend..

Do you do much shore fishing on Jersey mate or all off the boat??

I do alot of shore fishing off rocks, tend to shy away from piers as previously stated!, beach fishing is another but u need the right part of the year when the fish realy are coming in. I have spent most of my younger days(I'm only 25 but 6 years in the marines has given me alot of life experience and I feel about 50 now) fishing and camping out on the piers for Makreal etc etc, bass is pretty common but quite small and bream aswell but the bugger stuff is just a mile off the shore line. Obviously mostly it's just lots of people with big pound line and lots of feathers on the piers after 10 Makreal in one cast, and in winter it's the same just with squid.

I have now found my own little spots on the edges of the island, which more often than not require u to give up a life or too just to get down too, but sitting on the edge of the island with no one around makes u feel like I own jersey, me and the birds!

I'm sure guernsey is exactly the same

You will have a great time mate believe me!
