Fox cage

Hi folks.

I have a bunch of cubs in a wood where we release some pheasants and I was wondering if any of you guys have used any other baits than meat. I put a rabbit in it the other day and by next morning it was covered with eggs and the maggots will soon follow.

Any ideas appreciated.

Stay away from anything with Sullivan he's a black eye for US trappers. Try Rich

Try digging a hole for the meat bait under the trap with only part showing above ground .Place a treadle trap over it with the bait far side of treadle .Cover the floor of the trap with seived soil so as to leave no mesh showing .Inspect from a distance as constant human scent does nothing for success.Move the trap after a capture as you will not catch another cub in the same location .Right angles to a run are favourite sets or around a release pen .Good luck .

we always use smelly fish in a carry a bag tied to the cage matewith some good results mate ...john

the last time i used a fox trap, set it for a week useing rabbit, no joy so i used a trout and had one by the morning, this was set on allottment

LIke the others have said fish is a good bait.Try putting it in a hessian sack.it will still attract flys though but a fox will be able to smell it from a fair distance.
