the_stig 6,614 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Share Posted April 10, 2013 i`ve opened up an old fire --right the old fire backs still in i`ve bought a victorain cast fire which is all in with a metal fire back .. heres my problem with the cast fire it wont fit in with the old fire back can i remove the old fire or is it better to remove the cast fire back which is all bolted and would easily come apart and just use the surround ... doing my head in now Quote Link to post Share on other sites
sussex 5,776 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Share Posted April 10, 2013 Get a proper heating firm Stig , There is shed loads of regs that apply to fires ......In the past I took out the fire back ,put the metal one in & back filled with light weight thermiculite then parged up on top.....to form a throat that takes the smoke & gases up the chimney.....Get it checked by a QUALIFIED person mate they are dangerous if not fitted right 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
the_stig 6,614 Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Share Posted April 10, 2013 getting it swept in the morning --- the fella thats doing it covers everything that go`s with fires .... i`ve took a bolt or 2 off and it fits with the old fire back and the cast ... my mates a plummer he smoke tested the chimney for me and thats fine ... last had a fire in it 30 year ago ..
