Different Cloured Hens Eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi guys n girls,

I'm thinking of getting some layers in the nearish future and would like to have hens that lay as many different coloured eggs as possible.

So far my list consists of Arucana for the blue eggs. What others are there that I could get.

With a feeling of slight dread, I am anticipating some weak-ass humour concerning cadburys, easter eggs etc etc. So if you're going to be funny please be properly funny lol!

Cheers all!

Marran gives a dark egg as does welsomer

Normal brown eggs from the black rock, and other hybrids, also the rhode island... light brown from the light sussex, english game, blue bell.

The mediteranian breeds with the white lobes lay white eggs, best layer being the leghorn (1per day)

Thats some ive had experience with

Good hunting

I have a legbar that lays lovely little blue eggs. I get pure white ones from one of the Sussex hybrids, but the other lays pale brown. The rest of mine are first cross hybrids, so range from pale brown to a dark speckledy brown from one of the Maran crosses.

No easter egg jokes - you'll be pleased to hear

I also keep the Welsumer bantams (which are mentioned above). They lay beautiful brown spotted eggs and are very cheap to keep as they tend to get the majority of their food from mooching around the garden. However mine are very wild and invariably roost way up in an apple tree...even when it was snowing!
