Deker 3,478
Don't believe everything it says on the tin, I have chronographed hundreds of the Hmr and the Wmr Vmax the Hmr are on average 2703fps and the Wmr are 2191fps in my maths thats 512fps difference, I'm not knocking either round they are both pretty good my .22 mustn't like the hornady's because I can't get tight groups at a hundred yards but can with the HMR. Thats interesting, because I have had various makes of HMR on the Chrono and from memory I don't think one actually made it to 2550 as they suggest, most seemed to be in the 2400-2500 range! I truly do not understand why they quote 2550 if you say they average 2703, manufacturers are usually happy to boast! Quote Link to post

My previous WMR loved the CCI 40g Maxi Mag HP V, but my latest one is not so keen, groups gone out to 25-30mm, loves the Hornady 30g V-Max though, thats just the way it is sometimes So, yours will possibly like CCI, perhaps I can help you, I have a brand new 500 brick available for £100 collected! I know there used to be a lot of complaints about squibs aswell not so long ago and this seems to have stopped or at least it is not as regular, I have also noticed with the hornady there aren't as many cracks in the HMR necks as there used to be, they must have tweeked the manufacture but I bet if they read this post they will re-do the fps on the boxes!! Deker 3,478
And you can get some half decent wood on a CZ, my WMR American...... NewWMR1a.jpg NewWMR 003a.jpg nice looker that, i too have been looking at wmr as a carry about gun for opportunistic shoots at fox and things. also it would silence quite well compared to a c/f, so in theory should attract little attension daytime in places quite close to civilization. as ive stated before ive had bad expierences with the hmr and fox`s even with head shots. Always tricky this one, because it is pretty obvious I like the WMR, this is my second, and both of mine have performed very well, I have been a long term devotee of the calibre, but I also have 2 x .22lr and a HMR and CF etc. As I always say, "The WMR gives me a feeling of Confidence"! The SAK on the end is as good as any! My last WMR.....16" barrel (actually just under, and Sako mod) very accurate still, but I wanted a longer barrel on the new one, so had it cut to around 18.5", and bigger butt plate fitted, oh yes and Brooks trigger kit. WMRedit2.jpg WMR 003a.jpg Dekers, Lovely rifle, the tiger stripes look the business! Often wonder if i should have gone for wood and not plastic As regards the length of the barrel on the ,22 WMR, What was difference between 16" and 18.5" with regard to all round performance? Also, as regards a variation. Do i just ask for a .22lr or a .22 WMR rimfire? Quote Link to post

Also, as regards a variation. Do i just ask for a .22lr or a .22 WMR rimfire? Nothing except the feel, I never did truly scientific tests but both seem just as accurate and punchy to me. All my rifles are longer than 16inch so it may simply be that it felt odd to me at 16". It feels more comfortable, and better balanced for me that bit longer. Overall length was actually very little different because I changed my longer Sako mod on the 16" to a shorter SAK on my 18.5" so the overall difference was small. Probably most of it was in my head, but I'm very comfortable with what I have now. Some of it may also be down to LoP. I had always found the CZ American came up a little short for me so I changed the Recoil pad as well for a deeper one. A .22lr isn't a WMR so if you ask for that on a variation you can't get a WMR. This is an area there has been a lot of debate about, and many simply have .22RF listed, that of course "should" be fine, but if you are definitely after a .22WMR ask for that. ...and I only went for wood because there was no synthetic CZ WMR made at the time (don't think there is now). Cheers Dekers, Both my .22lr and HMR are 16" anyhows. But lop struck a cord with me. Both of mine also come up abit short. At some point i may get hold of some deeper recoil pads to... As for the variation, it's definately the WMR i'm after as have both the others so i'll just put that to be safe. Jamie Quote Link to post
