" Dung Flies ", in the south of england, are the same as above too. Never seen a thing quite like that before. Certainly not referred to as a shit fly.

 

I checked it against 'Clear Wing' moths. It's none of those. But they immitate various wasps. I recently had a Digger Wasp identified for me. Not that one either.

 

JD's poking around in the right direction, I'd say. I just haven't the field guides to take it any further.
