mooster 1
Ferretlove,I am doing this at the moment.Mother has a real serious problem!! Trying them for 10 mins a day and they have had their beds swapped avery other day. Doddsy, these two were inseperable before the youngster was spayed as well. Amazing how the mother is reacting after such a short time and she is not in season so would have thought she would be at her calmest. Still, patience is a vertue and i'm learning something new about my ferrets. Quote Link to post

Doddsy, these two were inseperable before the youngster was spayed as well. Amazing how the mother is reacting after such a short time and she is not in season so would have thought she would be at her calmest. Still, patience is a vertue and i'm learning something new about my ferrets. I must admit when i took ferrets in i had more problems with homing jills than hobs, basically they were as you have described, not just in the summer either, i had rows of cages full of solo jills who i had to seperate due to constant fighting, but i did find that having a very docile vasectomised hob helped, i basically left him in a run full off jills all year & he served each one who needed bringing out of season, i also managed to house a couple of castrated hobs in there as well, i had a group of around 15 ferrets all living happily together, the jills rarely came back into season after the first mating & most certainly the squabbling was reduced by 90% on average. But once he developed cancer & sadly had to be PTS all hell broke loose, i am convinced his presence kept the jills calm, a bit like the Hugh Hefner of the ferret world i was lucky in having such a docile hob i could have picked a hob who was constantly at the jills but in my experience it worked, others milage may & will vary Just keep at it & keep us informed good luck Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
my ferret court is divided down the middle so when the Jill's had there liters they were separate but still in eyes view they have gone back in together now with no problems maybe if they are in hutches try putting the hutches facing each other as close together as possible for a few days so they can get reacquainted first ? skycat 6,174
When a female animal is spayed, be it dog or ferret, its hormone producing ovaries are removed: the animal then smells completely different to an entire female. I've had this problem before with spayed bitches. I've also noticed that entire male dogs will get very excited in the presence of a castrated male dog, often trying to mount it. I suppose its possible that the ferret just doesn't smell like 'family' any more and is being seen as an intruder on to the older jill's territory, or could be that the old jill just can't understand why the spayed one smells different. mooster 1
Thanks all. Actually i was going to put a section of mesh across the communual area today so that they can see eachother more easily, rather than just through the end of a connecting tube which i put mesh over. We will see! Quote Link to post

mooster 1
tried them today after 4 days swapping beds and letting them feed either side of wire dividing mesh. Even though they sniff and stare at eachother when they are out in th run, mother is not having any of it and is still lashing outwhen put together. Anyway will try again (and again)! Will close this thread and do a quick update or pm's if I get a result. Quote Link to post
