Matt3699 142
Excuse my ignorance of Spain, but wouldn't the ground be to hard due to heat and lack of rain? Or are some parts more suitable? The Basque Country and northern Spain has a slightly different climate. It isn't as dry as other regions of Spain. Some of which are classified as desert. It's pretty green in the north. The south is very dry, most of the terrain is almost dust. Rather than hard and compact it's loose and dusty. I like the sound of a trip over there. I'll push to see what leads I can get. But it would have to be in the north. The heat and terrain would kill the dogs in the south. I took my 3/4 ghound over there with me. Plenty of hares about, but the heat and the steepness of the mountains killed her. As soon as a Hare hopped up it would head for the top of the nearest mountain. They even run down almost vertical inclines to get away. So many times I thought my dog was going to leap off a cliff after a suicide Hare, but luckily she didn't. This is the typical landscape of the south. ( Obviously it varies but this is typical ) You would be hard pressed finding a flat field in southern Spain.. or a place without Almond/ Olive/ Orange trees. Trust me, I walked bloody miles in search of Nirvana. But I never found it. Northern Spain is completely different. Lot's of flat plains to get a good run on. 1 Quote Link to post

Matt3699 142
Is there any laws regarding what breeds of hounds are allowed to course hares? is it just greyhounds or can you course with any lurcher type? http://www.spanishdogs.com/history/coursing.htm I think it's been written by someone with little hunting knowledge. But that is the gist of it. 1 Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
Right, I am trying to organise a trip out there. Just trying to find some contacts. I would be interested in running the dogs privately or in a competition depending on the rules to whether lurchers can run competitively. Read what you like about Spain or Portugal about dogs, it's words on the internet trying to ban coursing, more you believe it the better chance it will have the required affect. No one will be taking my dog. Any help appreciated and less of the anti's trying to derail my thread. Helen, I am sure you hunt with your dog, mainly on the internet trying to get people to bite. Fact is I could put anything together on youtube and tell everyone it is true. I do believe not long ago they said people with working dogs treat them bad, even ferret rescues wouldn't let ferreters have ferrets from them. Richie Keep us posted how you get on... I would be up for travling to spain for a few courses and some chilled Sol.. I am going to Ireland this year in Feb.. Helen stop reading Anti Slurr, its a bit one sided Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
I would also be interested in a trip if one is being arranged? 1 Quote Link to post
