run for my dogs

Recommended Posts

I will be getting my new terrier pup very shortly and I'm gonna be building a small run with a kennel in so that she along with my beddi whip can go in if my misses has to pop out during the day, but I'm going to concrete the floor. Basicly this is a question to any builders out there, as I'm only a painter I'm not a 100 percent but would a normal chippings to dust with sand and cement mix be ok for a base or would I need a different, if better mix? I will also add, aicko (spelling) drains down one side. Any info would be grat cheers

20mm ballast mate, 4-1 mix with cement, 10 inch deep all way round and make sure you screed it off right and have a slight slope for water.........aco drains, get the cheapest ones you can get, no need to get the heavy duty ones if not driving on them..........what are they going against??? if you can get the ballast picked up loose as you always get more for your money, which will be around £35 a tonne if you go to a builders merchants, or ring your local quarry/s to see if you can pick some up from there............

Do you think its a good idea to kennel a lurcher and terrier together ? Just have heard a few horror stories over the years.

I no i wouldn't kennel my terrier with my lurcher.

it will only be for no more than an hour or so as my misses dosnt work during the day so majority of the time they will be in the house with her or in and out of the kitchen/garden.

cheers mate, basicly I have a 3ft wide and 15ft long bit of space between my grass area and fence between me and next door, with railway sleepers running up and atm there is play bark but gonna dig it up put sculpings down, wacker plate it set 6 lengths of treated timber up right at about 5 ft high, evenly spaced out, with damp course wrapped around the bottom for extra protection to stop rotting, set the aco's in along side the sleepers coming verticly down the run and was hoping to bring the concrete up around 5inches up of the sculpings to make a nice solid base. I have a dog kennel already that will fit in there nicely and then using some old arris fencing pannels secure to the timbers and I have an old 5 ft gate from the side of the house to secure and use for a door. Don't want nothing fancie really, I think I've described something that sounds a lot better than what it will look lol! But hey ho! I have some decent industrial floor paint which is toxin free to paint the floor with after just for that little bit extra protection. Thanks for all the replys guys, will post photos as the work goes on :D atb
