Coypu Hunter 486
So a couple of days ago, my coypu trap (unbaited) caught a cock pheasant, which I released... then yesterday, it caught a young coypu, which I didn't release... then yesterday afternoon, while rebaiting the trap, I noticed three older coypus in the stream which feeds our lake. They were queuing up to dive through the fence that runs across the stream, to get into our lake... so of course I had to take the .22 for a walk. Unfortunately, my brain threw a gear and applied holdover instead of holdunder... duh..... but I saw two of them today frolicking in the stream just outside our boundary fence. I will have my revenge tomorrow. I'm currently reuploading a video of the events of the last few days (YouTube blew up during the first upload): my channel's at http://www.youtube.c...GOWFawnxZuf4cwQ Edited November 1, 2012 by Coypu Hunter Quote Link to post

jukel123 9,283
Where are you? On the planet I mean. We had some coypu in the UK at one time but I think I'm right in saying that they were all eradicated. I think they were in the Norfolk. They are big animals when you are close to them. Coypu Hunter 486
I'm in France, Brittany to be precise. Yep, the Norfolk Broads were overrun with coypus a while back, for the same reason that France is overrun with them now -- some idiots decided to farm them for their fur back in the 1930s, then realised that it wasn't a commercial proposition, so released them into the wild. Since coypus come from South America, and have no natural predators in Europe, they can spread like wildfire if they're released. They were all trapped or shot in the Broads some years ago, because they were destroying all the plant life. They have the same problem now in Louisiana, where the government offers $5 per tail if you kill 'em -- see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TU_IZzxNyQ Muskrats and coypus are running wild over here in France too. Take a look at this article to see what I mean (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the article): http://www.fabfrog.c...killer-6642679/ I shoot them on sight, since they cause so much damage to our lake banks. Saw one yesterday, just as I was leaving to get the ferry over the UK for a couple of weeks -- so expect a new video as soon as I get back there! Cheers. Quote Link to post
