BS40liam 203
Dropped my little girl to school this morning and the misses decided to have a few more hours in bed due to her having work tonight so bored at home packed the ferret into the box got the dog and whent for a stroll to one of my local permisions ( 5 min walk lol) had a quick chat with the farmer and he told me he saw a few rabbits in the small field behind the house so walked around and then the rain started! It was quite heavy so I sat under a small tree and had a cup of tea untill the rain died off a bit, after 20mins it stopped so moved to the 1st set which is a 4 holer just inside of a hedge but its been cut back so much its more open and easy to gain access so netted up the holes and put the frisky albino gill in, the dog was showing no signs of interest and decided that my jacket on the floor was a more interesting place to be lol lazy git! After 3 or 4 mins heard a slight rumble but nothing appeard..and the ferret kept appearing every so often at each entrace so either there's a hole I missed or due to being a bit inexperienced still didn't quite understand how to move a wedged rabbit lol, never mind so on to the next warren which consisted of 6 holes the pup had a little sniff around the holes but she's not at the stage of a marking dog as such yet so put the ferret down and within a second of the ferret going into hole number one, a rabbit flew out of another hole just behind me! I dispatched it quickly then chucked it infornt of the dog so she could have a sniff and a play with it. By now the rain had started again and I didn't want to be sat out getting soaking wet so decided to walk home.on walking back down the lane towards my house I spotted 3 rabbits by a tree in a field on my left hand side so thought f+ck it! Jumped the little hedge and the rabbits dissapeard underneath the tree, I krept over sticking xlose to the hedge as there's a house the other end of the field and I'm not to sure if they would be to happy with me walking on here lol. At the tree there were 3 holes that I could see so netted up and put the ferret in within a couple of seconds 2 rabbits bolted from a hole behind the tree which led ointo a sheep field and my dog just being wet and miserable didn't spot them. Then I looked back down and in the mouth of one of the holes in front of me was a little face staring back up at me..yes it was bunny number 3, my ferret must have been behind it as the rabbit gave a loud sqweel so I reached down. And pulled the rabbit out with my gill tightly attached to its arse I pulled my ferret of and dropped the rabbit by mistake but luckily my little pup was in alert mode and snapped the rabbit up just before it could make hase! Packed up and jumped back over the hedge and made my way home with 2 rabbits. And if thie weathers ok 2 morrow ill be out to do it all again! Thanks for looking liam Quote Link to post
chrismdd 787
Nice one Liam, that albino jill is getting the experience she needs. I think last Sunday she didn't realise just how deep those buries go and my jill has done those ones several times over the past few years. This Sunday we'll try them together to see how they get on. Just keeping an eye on the forecast at the moment and praying that its not going to be as wet as they predict at the moment (this time last week they thought last Sunday could of been a washout down here but in the end it turned out tropical) so fingers crossed at the moment. BS40liam 203
Cheers chris, yes she's getting the experience but she still moves a little to fast for my liking but hey ho I might even bring my other gill down aswell, I won't use her she's still a little to young but get her out. bullmastiff 615
Sounds like a decent little trip out, and some great experience for that young Jill of yours Looks like it'll rain all weekend, so waterproofs required on Sunday! Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Well done mate, and thats a real bonus, your pup grabbing the rabbit, just shows how handy a good dog by your side is! Maybe ask the house about permission on the field? Its always worth asking. Quote Link to post
