Simoman 110
Are there many people out there keeping and working Wheaton lurchers? What are the differences in abilty and temperament compared to the bull cross? Do they mature quicker, faster first cross, smaller/bigger etc. Look forward to the replies Quote Link to post
staffy-1 0
my friends three dogs are 13 month old now, THe bitch he kept back is 23 inch and the two dogs are 25.....For a first cross they ar light dogs with bags of stamina. Theyve took plenty of rabbits so far and one of the dogs took a dog fox single handed when the fox got up when he was running a rabbit. staffy-1 Quote Link to post

Guest JDF
i had one from a line started by a friend from a wheaten dog he had.advantages over the bull x are a better coat other than that theres not much in it imo. my own was well behaved and easily trained though some do have a tendency to be slightly mental sire and dam of my dog sire is the smooth 1/2 x 1/2,the bitch is3/4 x 1/2 Quote Link to post
Guest grubygrafter
good allrounders i. m. o. Quote Link to post
Guest whitser
they're popular over here alright. a lad i hnut with bought one a few weeks back. says he's very happy with him. i've heard that they can be dodgy with other dogs and are best kennelled alone. with wheaton in them they wont hold back. smash foxes if the breeding is right. macker 5
have seen some very good ones and some bad ones the same with any breed. a bit of bull and even some saluki can work wonders too. my friends have a fair few of them. some fairly good ones too. the thing i like about them their nose and lunacy. just you have to be firm with them when stock breaking some times. and as with all the other crosses better to do it when young. all the best macker Quote Link to post
cymruguy69 5
I'm very intrested in this cross and would love to get one once my pup has had her 1st season. Heared all good things about these dogs!! Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
i would recomend this cross to any one mate. as i think grubygrafter would aswell. as long as the wheaten is from the right stuff! Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
As with most crosses i've seen good an bad, got to be from the right stuff. One thing does make me wonder though.... even from good lines the size an structure of this cross seems to vary quite a bit? some first crosses I've have seen leveled off at around 22" light boned too, yet others have come in at 27" an very strong, does anyone know if different working Wheaton lines have a great deal of size diffrerence??
