tick on my ferret!!!!

just noticed a tick on one of my ferrets behind his ear. can anyone give me some advice on how to remove it safely????? thanks.

hi mate thanks for that. i just noticed it behind his ear. its only small, i dont have o-tom tick remover, but i will deffo be getting one soon as i can. is there anyway i can remove it safely now, because i dont like the thought of it being there till i can get the remover??? i will also be frontlining them as soon as i can get into the vets. cheers mate..

use a tick remover or take it to ur local vets they do it free of charge

yep best to leave it on untill you get a tick remover,,,what some people do is cover it with vasiline, it suffercates it, and they have to pull themselves out to get air,iv done it in the past,,,but it is best to use a tick remover!

the vets may even sell the tic removers, there only a couple of quid and a good tool to have.

got a tic remover from pet shop today. dabbed it with alcohol, left it 5 mins then removed it. cleaned the cage out, (even though i only done it yesterday lol). i checked the ferrets, and they are all clear. also my andy kelly nets came today.

Did you not read the sticky? What part of the sticky mentioned alcohol? What part of "don't put anything on it" wasn't clear?

 

Glad it all worked out ok, but NO ALCOHOL!

pull it off with tweezers or a tick remover take out all the bedding and sawdust and BURN it also give the hutch a good goood scrub and then treat your ferret with a spot on from the vet simples

tick remover about 2quid from pet shops, alittle dab of tea tree oil after removal for injection, malts put some older threads for cleaning the hutch so have a look. My pet shop does a tick, flea ear might drop just for ferrets i think its johnsons, works a treat. I have noticed they have it at pets at home as well, and dont use hay or straw for bedding
