secretagentmole 1,701
Well it was about time to go down to the permission again. Mary has discovered that she likes rabbit when it is cooked in a stew with black pudding! So another rabbit was required to test this new hypothesis... Well droppped off at the top of the track, so the two rabbits right on the track by the edge of the paddock leg it. Mole has the HW in the tac bag and a game bag (optimistic little swine aren't I?), so stop 50 feet down, unpack gun, gloves and mesh balaclava on, Pellets into magazines, magazine into gun, check zero, all fine and down track. Now I have my empty tac bag on my back, the game bag jauntily slung over one shoulder and I set off. No rabbits in the paddock, so down the track, then I saw a rabbit, 100 metres away, I tried to stalk it, with TAC bag on my back, game bag on shoulder. There was a very strong wind, but it was obscured by the woodland, so the air down the track was still, rabbit was sat on haunches looking at me. I managed to get to 60 metres, it started to twitch. So I waited, 5 minutes of bunny giving me the hard stare. Tried to advance slowly, twitch, so stay still, so I lifted the gun up slowly, bottom mark, fired, rabbit somersaulted, kicked and moved no more. So I texted Mary to get some black pudding, an apple, a carrot and some sage... I had a walk down the track and to the right. No more rabbits, pigeon time! Into the woods, the pigeons are holding on for grim death in the teeth of the gale. I lined up one over, fired and the pigeon flew off! I could of sworn I hit it just above and in front of the wing. The others decided to let go of the branches and flew off to new roosts. I waited and one flew in, I was able to get a shot in calmer wind and dropped it nicely. Anyway I decided to leave the wood to look for more rabbits. down the track and turn right and what the??? There frozen in flight, on the ground, wings outstretched, is a dead wood pigeon! So pie balance restored I was able to pack up and get home... 1 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
OK, well when combined with this little lot, it makes a damned nice dinner.... Moles tried and trusted Bunny and Black Pudding Stew... Ingredients: 2 Bunnies (dressed and de-boned and diced - if you can leave them soaking overnight in brine/White wine vinegar even better!) 1lb of Black pudding 2 medium onions 2 carrots 1 apple a Little olive oil salt and pepper 1 level teaspoon mixed dried herbs 2 chicken stock cubes and 1 vegetable stock cube 1 pint of boiling water (in a jug) Shortcrust Scones Plain flour - 6 ozs margarine 2ozs a little cold water to bind pinch of salt and pepper, pinch of dried sage Take your bunnies and brown them off in a HOT frying pan with some Olive oil. Once browned place in a large casserole dish. Chop your black pudding up into large chunks and brown off quickly. add to casserole dish Chop onion, carrots and apple (leave skin on if desired) add to the casserole dish. Take 1 pint of boiling water in a jug and add the stock cubes and herbs. Leave the stock to stand until cooled slightly. Add salt and pepper to the casserole mix and stir well, add the stock and place in a preheated oven at 180 degrees celsius. cook for 1 hour and then turn the oven down to 150 degrees for a further 2 hours. ;D To make the scones mix the flour and margarine together until it resembles breadcrumbs, add salt, pepper and sage. Add a little water until the mixture just begins to bind. knead mix together and leave to stand for 20 minutes in the fridge. Quickly roll out dough to 1 inch thick and cut out scones using a knife or scone cutter, place on a lightly greased tray and brush lightly with a little milk. Prick with a fork (looks pretty!) Add the scones to the oven 30 minutes before the casserole is cooked - check after 15 minutes (to see if cooked stick a sharp knife in if it comes out clean there done!) They should take about 15-25 minute to cook depending on how thick they are. Once cooked remove from oven allow to cool very slightly and then serve with mashed potatoes! Quantities can be halved....
