help with stick making

Recommended Posts

I have recently been thinking of having a go at making a nice walking stick from start to finish. I was talking amongst the family when my granny said I have a stick and rams horn in the house that ya grand got years ago and never got round to doing it, you can have that if ya want I would love to see it put to use and looking nice. So up I went and gathered the goodies. Now my problem starts, were do I begin. Haha. Have read up about it but still a bit stuck. The horn is hollow right through and is quite a bit wider than the top of the stick which I would think would make a bad lookin join. Any advise and help would be great as I really wanna do it and make it look the bee's knees and make somethin my old granda would be proud of, he was good at what ever he turned his hand to and I would love to make somethin as half descent as he would of. And ideas help hints and tips?

Some Sticks a friend (sadly died ) Norman Tulip made, most now in the stick-room at Alnwick Castle.

Note only the eyes are stuck on, the rest is all one piece carvings from solid horn.
