jf1970 328
i have only ever heard of a vasectomised hob since coming on here a couple of years ago, i have only got back into ferrets for the last 3 years but done alot when i was younger, back then ( 30 yrs ago ) i had never heard of one, never mind use one and i never had any problems with any gills dying or getting infections, is this just the latest craze? imo if you keep the ferret hutch clean, you shouldn't have any problems, what is others views on this? Sirius 1,391
Best to take them out of season with a Jaffa or a jab. Just to be on the safe side. It's not fashion just good sense Porter and Brown mention a vesectomised hob in there book nearly 30 years ago it's nothing new. Prolonged oestrus just leaves them open to infection, why risk it?? jf1970 328
I reckon you`ve been on here long enough to know what people think. if i knew what people were thinking, then i wouldn't ask would i ? it was only a question to see what others views were. Do you not ask any questions on this site then, or have you been on that long that you know what everyone thinks? Edited August 19, 2012 by jf1970 Quote Link to post
The one 8,589
A snipped hobs the easiest option for taking the jills out of season , i would like to think we have moved on from years ago breeding all our ferrets at every turn but for some the lure of a tenner or even a fiver is too strong Quote Link to post

The one 8,589
What was allowed or happened years ago ,like leaving jills in season is frowned upon now and with better animal husbandry we have snipped hobs ,the jill jab ,i like to think we have moved on for the better 4 Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Years ago they fed ferrets bread and milk, snapped their teeth and muzzled there ferrets Like I say why risk a perfectly good ferret getting infection and dieing when a Jaffa or a Jab will sort it 2 Quote Link to post
Rich.h 4
Have to sit on the side of the fence that uses a V hob for this one, folk never used to vaccinate dogs against parvo but I'd be shocked to hear any owner now not doing so. I went as far as to get a hob then get him snipped for the sole purpose of keeping my jills out of season. For the cost of his yearly food he pays for himself in vet fees for the jill jabs, plus no yearly chemical dose for the jills. Have to be envious of his lifestyle though.
