BUYING AND SELLING LURCHERS.

In the time i have kept lurchers, i have come across some genuine fellas, dealers, wheelers, fighters ect.

When i get a pup, i try and keep it and prefer not to pass it on, giving the pup a permanent home ect.

Now, their is a few characters i know, that sell a dog, as soon as it is not up to their expectations, not retrieving, not getting many bunnys, ect.

These felas, will try and get back what they payed, regardless to where the dog ends up.

But, then their is folks, who have no choice but to sell or give away, for some unknwn reason or other, family probs ect.

Should these folks, when they come on here, be cut down, like a peace of meat in a pirana bowl?

If i got a pup and it did not make the grade, i would have no hastation but to give it away to a permanent pet home, whats the point otherwise, after all their workers?

I have in the past, bought adult dogs and found out, threw my own foolish mistake, why the dog was sold! and, at the time, due to low income ect, did not want to give the dog away, just could not afford to, so sold it again and with the money, buying a pup, which i should of done in the first place.

This does not make me a dealer, who allways has a number of dogs in his kennels, ready to be sold and half are usually stolen!!

What im trying to say is, we all make mistakes and when a fella comes on here, selling a dog, ect, we should first find out wehy he is selling and not cut him down the first opertunity we get.

Look at greyhound folk, i have never seen so many dogs get sold, choped, shiped ect ect in my life, yet, nowt much gets said about them?

The lurcher world is prone to attract dealers, thats the way it is and boy, do some traverlers i know of, do some dealing!

Keep the peace folks, we have enough enemys. :victory:

i totally agree with your posts, but lets be real if someone comes on a hunting site trying to sell a dog because its jacked or what ever, he is not likly to say anything but "personal situation forces sale" we all know what it normally means, most faults in a dog can been seen when its out on a shift working its quarry, which of course this is what everyone should be doing if there buying a dog which some one is saying it can do this that and the other.. ie watching the dog do what it apparently says on the tin........i have to add i dont think iv ever seen a dog advertised on the net or any where else apart from friends that says anything like.. dog can do this that and the other but im getting rid because it cant do this, there for is no use to me as a working dog..... this is a no no for me just my opinion, happy hunting

Oh if only we lived in a perfect world..........all working lurchers would be in the right working home, pet lurchers would be in pet homes.................there would be no need for rescues................and pratts would never own a dog  .

Frank!! No body can argue with your post, cause you have stated the obviouse. Nobody is going to knock a guy for moving on a dog that he has tried hard to train/sort.

But what is fustrating is jack the lad......dick head harry......and iaintgotacluesoi'llfuckupthisdogthenpassiton.

Agree with all thats said.

I think, a trail is a must, if you have not seen the dog work, or dont know the guy/girl your buying it from.

LB, i like the way you discribe a dealer, (iaintgotacluesoi'llfuckupthisdogthenpassiton.)

These people that buy and sell dogs are just twats they wouldnt know a good dog if it came up and bit them in the ar*e. I see dogs regularly passsing from one man to another it makes me sick to see dogs being passed on and sold like that.

These people think you can buy a dog take it out an hour later and it will catch and retrive to hand straight away FFS the dog aint got a clue where it is or who this person thats shouting at it is. I know a guy now he genuinely bought a dog went out with the guy and saw it work caught 3 hares (before the ban) paid alot of cash for the dog got the dog home socialised with it well the dog never ever killed another thing it never worked again just shows you what you can waste money on.

not trying to get at anyone here but if you are going to buy an already working dog should you not try it out first..i.e. trail for a couple of days or go out with the person whos selling it ...if us the buyers ; did our homework properly then it wouldnt need to get sold on ....just a thought ...its different when you bring a pup on for a certain quarry and it dosent make the grade for that certain quarry..but if you have bruoght the dog on right it will be good for one off our quarries .e.g. say i bought a pup for old long ears and he didnt make the grade if i the owner brought him on right he would be good at rabbits or one of our british quarries ,,,jmho....i could be wrong but thats how i see it ..and if sombody buys of the pikes without doing there homework then they are complete twats anyway ... :D
