Recommended Posts

not to far mate i would take mine on the local field and let it run about for half a hour dont push it as its only 3/12 months old pup time for you to be getting a bond with the pup and plenty of playing throw things for it and enjoy your pup atb troter

At this age he will not need much walking at all......but he will need as much socialisation as you can expose him to like meeting other people and dogs in calmness, seeing traffic, hearing noises etc. plus a few minutes several times a day of training/interacting/learning maners with you to get his education off to a good start.

Pups don't necessarily whine because they are tired. They may whine through stress, confusion. A young pup automatically feels vulnerable away from the 'nest', to the familiar smells and sounds of their home. I usually walk young pups no more than a couple of hundred yards to my local park: I'm lucky to have one so close to me, but if I didn't have a place where I could socialised a young pup like this, I'd make sure to drive to a place.

I've often carried pups to the park on their very first outing: that way they can take in all the new sounds and smells from the security of my arms. Once there, I let them run around under close supervision, especially when it comes to other dogs around. I won't let a pup go near another dog unless I absolutely know that dog is safe with pups, and if I see a strange dog approaching unsupervised I pick the pup up: better not to risk a frightening confrontation with a dog that may not be friendly than risk the pup getting bitten or bowled over. That sort of incident can mess them up for life.
