RossM 8,149
Acquired a bit permission earlier on in the year and today I had organised with the landowner to do a bit of a rekky/wander of the land, Lee assisted me today along with my old bitch, his whippet 2 ferrets and a few nets. the initial showing of the boundaries we had a walk and done a couple of burrows while we were there, the dogs marked well and we finished off with 4 bunnies there is no doubt there's plenty rabbits there but due to the amount of cover there's no way we will make an impact on the land till it dies back abit. The old bitch put a few rabbits up out of the long grass but the grass was just exactly that, long. The highlight of my day was when we ferreted an old midden, we tried to place nets strategically but it didn't work out, anyway a bunny bolted on the side that the whippe was on and she took it like an old pro within 20yards, made up for her and hopefully the first of many, The landowners are sound enough aswell which helps things, the old boy is a character, telling tales of his lurchers in days gone by and his dads too, even got a cuppa and a biccy! Took a few pictures, thought Lee had took an end of day photo but turns out he never and neither did I! I'm sure he'll have some more photos to add. 1 Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
good pics you took there ross. had a good day today but like you said the cover is too long so we done the best we could. is was only a reccy and a look at whats there for september time so 4 was a decent bag considering we were only there a short while. i was chuffed when the whippet got her first. that was an accumilation of all the hard work ive put in getting her back from her broken legs and proving all the people wrong who say she wouldnt be able to do it. its only 1 rabbit but it means a lot more to us good day out and im glad i didnt have to pitch a tent tonight waiting for that ferret under that silage store 2 Quote Link to post

broonball 38
Good times lovely lookin dogs, like the pic of the whip wi rabbit on the wall.similiar story for me today, my pup picked a rabbit up 1st thing just out for morning walk wi me dad, was wondering if it wasn't starting to get mixi as it sat a long time and when it ran she turned it once and I'm sure it held up a white flag! Needless to say she picked it up and foxed off with it. I got it off her in the end tho and it was fine no mixi, just thick. I later went to one o my permissions and did a set in a soil heap, 10 nets and jill went in. Waited around 10mins and 1st rabbit bolted, slipped the net (poor form and no1 to blame) but the dog was on it put two quick turns and nailed it. She foxed off wi it when I went to get it but one o the horses in field sent her back, she dropped it next to ferret box 10ft away and came back on the sett. We got two more an old buck and a good size doe. So four for the day and a record for the pup two in a day. All good size rabbits and not a milky doe in sight. She had a couple more runs but lost them under sheds. Absolutely top form from her and the drop by the ferret box I could certainly get used to. Atb 1 Quote Link to post
