She is on anti vomit tablets now and seems to be perking up! no throwing up last night and was back to her normal bouncy, squeaky lets go for a walk self first thing, even managed to roll in a huge pi

Something tells me your old bitch is not long for this world. I'm sorry to say this, but if she were my dog, and nearing the end of her natural life, I would think very hard about having her put down.

Try feeding smaller meals several times a day...

Blood tests are back clear though her red blood cell count is very slightly higher than normal so looks like we are going to treat her for a stomach ulser

Just in the process of getting some fluids in her now and vet has given us some electrolite drink for her

Chronic pancreatitis in dogs

Chronic pancreatitis is usually not as severe when it is diagnosed as acute pancreatitis. However, chronic pancreatitis is usually continual and may cause irreversible damage over time. Often times, chronic pancreatitis is mistaken for another illness because it is not as severe as acute pancreatitis.

Symptoms of chronic pancreatitis in dogs include:

  • Dehydration
  • Abdominal pain
  • Lethargy
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite

I had a bitch with the above, although she ate and drank fine and seemed ok untill the vomiting. When you do feed the dog get her on Chappie tinned meat for a while, nice and easy on her stomach ;)

Good luck.

Really feel for you i do. Helpless doesn't even come close, does it.

Vets are not infallible and do not always know the answer, must be a hard job to do.

The bitch i mentioned, was found to have a mass later on, nothing picked up with tests prior.

I'm lucky that i have a good relationship with my vet, and he sorta talked me into letting her go, something i would not have thought about myself as she was THE dog. She went at home eating best steak mince from my hand, oblivious to anything the vet was doing, the last thing on her mind was the gob full of steak with more to come.....a brilliant end wouldn't you say, even though for me it was the end of the world. She went happy before it got too bad.

I know you probably don't want to hear about other people and their dogs at this time, i just wanted to tell you to perhaps give you food for thought. But i know there is always hope, and hopefully your dog is different and things get better.

.x.

Trouble with my vet is they will keep a dog going as long as they can if they can! Dads old dog they kept him going long after he should have gone on and long long after he had gone off his legs!

I'm very soft with my dogs but I would rather she went on than suffered for ages!

Trouble is we just cant find whats up with her, she seems fine in her self just not quite herself if that makes sense? just like something has taken the shine off her

Does its breath stink?

Always! but then she has had really bad breath since I got her

I just remember my dad having a greyhound, think she was around 12 and she was being sick....My mum noticed that that her breath began to really stink and it turned out her internal organs were breaking down. Eventually had to be PTS.

Makes perfect sense, and that is what makes us hold on and on for hope. But i try to make myself remember that they don't show suffering the way us weak humans do.

From prior problems i established later my bitch had probably had a brain tumour for over a year prior to the 2nd mass showing. She was ratting only a month before she was pts.

Is the food she vomits digested or undigested?

Started off as digested then went to undigested

I'm no vet but if it started of as digested vomit then turned into regurgitation it sounds like increased inflammation perhaps?

There is no way of routinely identifying this condition other than a biopsy, so it would not show up .....

Try suggesting some lansoprazole treatment at your vets ;)
