Recommended Posts

Unfortunatly I gave into the hubby and we consumed something we were told was food at leenane hotel... Never again lol, we took a round trip over via cong all the way through to leenane and then through to clifden and then down to maams cross

Stopping along the way to let dogs off for a run anywhere there was no sheep

I was totally in awe of the mountains, wouldnt mind spending more time in that area perhaps climb one of them

My next trip will be to lisdoonvarna as I didnt get to explore that area when I went down to buy my dogtrailer but I will be back over to connemara again sometime this year hopefully

I've climbed a lot of them, Mweelrea (highest in Connacht), Glencoaghan horseshoe, Ben Baun (highest in Galway) across Benbrack to Kylemore Abbey, Muckanaght and Ben Cullagh most of the Maumturks and a few other smaller hills as well.

The Turks are a lot easier to walk than the Bens as the Turks tend to be flatter on top, so, once yer up, yer up. The scree I came across in the 'Turks is also more fun, smaller stones, great craic.

The Bens are a lot of up, down, up, down compared to the Turks. There's one bit of scree during the horseshoe and it's not as much fun as there are large stones mized with the small, so you can have quite a large stone "following" you down the scree.

These are the people to see if you're interested in a club, http://maumturkswalkingclub.com/ . Last time I checked a person could tag along for two walks gratis, then you'd have to pay membership fee which was €50 a year but may have changed since.
