:) Here we go again. Ye'll just have to get used to me 'round here for now!

Ok, lads; When I bought my superb BSA Lightening XL (Funny how I now 'poo, poo' air rifles! Though I genuinely still wouldn't mind that Lightening around the place, for rats and such :( Can't be greedy, eh?!) I bought it and kitted it out with a 'scope and laser. And, before I realised what was going on, I found I was relying on the scope to show me the target, but firing to the laser. And, frankly, once I had that laser zero'd, I was unstoppable! Guess what I want now?!

So; Air rifle. .22 Hornet. World of differance! Couple of years differance too. Now we have widely available Green lasers :hmm:

Oh, f*ck it. Ye know the craic by now: Speak to me! Please! :clapper: Which? Where? How much? Why? I'll never be happy till I get another one. My old eyes? I bloody well Need one!

:D lasers are to much bother very easy to knock out of alignment just how many posts on these shooting forums do you see a laser sitting on top of a centre fire rifle ?? stick to a good quality scope that will stand up to a few knocks learn to use that and leave the lasers for the ;) sas

Aah, but; Ye don't know my history, Woodg! ;)

No, seriously, point taken, mate. But they've come on leaps and bounds lately. I had absolutely no prob's with my one. And my mate Dean has one on his rimmy. 'Always has had' and reports no problemmo what so ever.

And I swear to god; It's not the S.A.S image trip with me ~ I prefer to go out alone anyway ;) ~ I genuinely do find it helps my eyeballs no end. Squinting down a scope at --|-- isn't so easy for me, when I can't see the print in a book without my reading glasses on. And I can't afford new reading glasses yet, let alone them and a pair for shooting!

Perfectly good laser's probably cheaper than bloody glasses, these days, anyway! :icon_eek:

In than case mate how about a scope with an illuminated reticule or central dot :hmm: You can find some pretty reasonable second hand ones out and about... nice head shot on that crow on the other thread by the way :victory:

:shok:NOW I find out what those bloody things are?! Having just bought an otherwise perfectly good scope?! :wallbash:

I wouldn't know about an illuminated reticule, mate. But aren't those central dots red? I've seen them refered to for a while now but, guess what? It never even crossed my mind to check them out because I'd simply always considered it a taken that I'd do as I did before: Get a normal scope and then aid it with a laser!

This learning curve's costing me a bloody fortune! I've just cracked off fifty quids worth of ammo ~ then heard about Bore Sighting! Now this ..... F*ck it!

HERE WE GO LAD,

totally agree with the last post about lasers, no need for one on your rifle, may be ok on a rimmy, not a centrefire rifle, it will only cause you more heartache than good. my option would be see if your dealer will take your scope back an get the hawke nite-eye dot scope. google hawke and their site will pop up. lovely looking scope. i have the hawke target 10x40 power for the .17 hmr and its excellent just going to add, did you adjust your scope for eye relief. :hmm: any questions pm me. and i'll do my best for ye.

[/color]IF EVERYTHING IS DONE TO PERFECTION, IT CAN ONLY LEAD TO SUCESS........

Went on a laser search a while back, for my shotgun and possibly rimfire. Found out three things, they're expensive, they're relatively innacurate, the good ones cost a fortune/are ex military or located in the USA where they won't ship to you.

You'd be talking something like a two inch dot down range at 50 or 100 yards (I forget which). OK for a shotgun, for a CF rifle, fergedaboutit.

I've bought three scopes since I started shooting(Simmons Blazer, MTC Viper, Nightforce NXS), two have Illuminated reticles (fancy ones now not the £5 down the back end of the market jobbies) I never switch them on, not too many shooters do. For lamping, the kind of reticle that'll aid you most, especially for foxing is a relatively chunky one, so forget target reticles as they're too thin and you'll loose them in the background at night. I find the reticle on the MTC Viper to be a perfect width for this. But, it's also fine enough to shoot a greycrow at 202 yards.

Good quality glass, an accurate rifle, good chunky reticle, and ability to tell your ranges (or buy a cheap rangefinder off that well known auction site like Nikon ProStaff 440) will be your best bet.
