hi

i bought one of these new about 2 years ago and never really got a chance to use it (literally just sighted it in). it groups well i was fit to put 5 shot groups into 2" at 30 yards resting my elbow.i am going to start using it to shoot rabbits and rats although when i put it through the enough chronograph its only doing 9.6 ft/lbs

 

is that to kill a rabbit? (i know it must be head shot)

It probably needs to bed in mate, .177 yes, even .22 but your ranges will be limited abit..about 5-1000 pellets through it and chrono again

That power is fine for medium range vermin control buddy (15 to 25 yards) but if your only grouping 2 inches at 30 yards with it you are either using a really cheap pellet, a mixture of many types of pellet at various weights or your shooting isn't quite up to shooting just yet accurately enough to hunt vermin at 30 yards buddy.

 

What you need to be doing rested is under a inch at 30 yards pal.

 

A inch is what we class as a UK recognised kill zone on a rabbit, but smaller obviously on rats, pigeons and squirrels etc.

 

All my calibration I do is worked on a 20mm kill zone so slightly smaller than a inch, but doing it this way you get a really good steer of your point blank range and what's going down on the cross hair if you don't know how to trajectory compensate by holding under and over.

 

I would also try different pellets in your rifle maybe one of the following brands mate:

 

Webley Accupells as they are quite light and may bump the power up to the mid 10s or more in your springer.

 

They have bumped my power up in my springer very close to the limit, in fact I'm going to get the rifle taken down in power by half a foot pound when I'm next at SFS.

Thanks ill keep practising i was using bisley superfield not sure what theyre like? I have accupell and field target trophy ill give them a go next time its out!

Hi Gregg what Si says is correct mate the power is fine but like you have said you have hardly used it so power will increase when it beds in....when trying diff pellets i always clean my barrel.....Keep trying diff pellets till you find a pellet your barrel is happy with and stick to it.....Once your rifle has bedded in chrono it and you will find it has risen quite a bit mate.....good luck with it mate

I found that the Crosman Permiers are a good pellet, stick to the Domed or the Ultra Magnum if using a .22, if using a .177 forget the Ultra Magnum as they are a heavy pellet primarily designed for PCP use!

Just put a scope on should help with acuracy at the longer distances
