I love folk taking the piss, but if i said i had seen a fox the other day, broad day light, wandering around a horse paddock, looking confused, in poor condition, with a manky tail etc, and showing no fear of people or dogs, allowing a man and dog to approach it and get close etc without running off.

What would your thoughts be?

Most of the time it WOULD be a city fox, that's been dumped. The kind that don't run.

calm doon jai ffs, get over it, ye were wrong, everybodys wrong noo an again, im sure i was wrong once back in 82 :tongue2:

why is it a city fox??? i seen soem real healthy stunning foxes in the city an some seriously mangey bags a bones in the countryside, cant tell where a fox has grown up just by the state its in

Wrong, its one of 2 cubs, born on the very land the pic was took, and the reason they showed no fear of me, is because they see me daily with my dog, and i leave them alone

Love how quick everyone likes to show their fox knowledge 'definitely a city fox' etc. They arnt so quick to admit they are wrong though are they!!

I got NO issue with being wrong mate, i just find it funny when folk give it the big "city fox from a picture, i've heard it all on THL now' blah blah.

I'd say it was a pretty understandable assumption, and it 90 % of cases (those not involving a serial fox watcher) it would be correct :tongue2:

Not necessarily urban foxes are just as skittish as country side ones......a lot of foxes are shedding their coats at the moment which gives them a scruffy look.....how do you know the fox is confused...nothing unusual about foxes wandering about in the daytime either. Looks like its got a bit of tail mite on it

the reason i said it, was an is, i seen a guy do exact same thing a few seasons ago, we was ferreting a big country house garden miles from anywhere, an on the way upto the house to let them know we was on site, we seen 3 foxes, guy i was with said, ye see them no fear, quite thin lookin they musta been dumped from the city, i laffed an said i never understood folks that say that, unless you or somebody has actually seen a fox being dumped, how do ye know?? i understand its an guess, but thats all it is, a guess imo

the owners of the house then told us that them foxes have been there years are wernt scared fo nowt.

like i said earlier in thread, i have seen shy an bold foxes liveing in a city, i have seen small an large foxes living in a city, an i have also seen healthy an ill foxes living in a city, i should imagine not all foxes are as good as each toher at hunting/scavenging or just generally surveing

Some very fair points! And i conceed it was a guess, of course.

Just my experiance, and maybe its the area im from, but any fox you see here (and you may see them day time), as soon as they see you or realise you have clocked them, they are off like a fecking rocket!

Only experiance i got with dumped city foxes, is down south, and like i said, the folk i been speaking to, who had witnessed them being let out of the vans, went around and moped them up, and apparently they just stared down the beam, n fear until too late.

Seen quite a few in the city, and again, like you say, some were skittish, and some were completely unphased.

I've just NEVER come across a proper wild, rural fox, that wuld pose for photos, mid day, 10 yards from a dog.

But aye i was wrong, and im away now to greet and drown my sorrows in curry.

Ive also had a great hunt and run only to find at the end it had a collar on.

Aye, i just saw i wrote that after :icon_redface:

I'd still hold that if i saw that round here, and had not been watching the fecker since birth, then it would 100% be dumped. And i wouldnt be complaining to be honest!
