Wrong, its one of 2 cubs, born on the very land the pic was took, and the reason they showed no fear of me, is because they see me daily with my dog, and i leave them alone Looks like it's trapped it's tail at some time mate... I've a litter on some of my permission that i will be taking a look at once the silage has all been cut. Although i don't mind seeing the odd one a few play havoc with the wild english partridge and the pheasant poults. Best get the majority out the way before the poults are put down. Quote Link to post

djs7547 104 Posted June 7, 2012 Report Share Posted June 7, 2012 im not a fox man myself so wouldnt portray myself knowledgeable on this topic, but id like to add that iv seen some very big foxes round our neighbourhood, these ones are packed and obviously well fed. Being honest i would have thought the ones that stay out of the citys would be leaner as opposed to the city foxs, as they would need to be more active in less food productive areas ie in staying fitter to catch there prey. Ideation 8,217 Posted June 7, 2012 Report Share Posted June 7, 2012 why is it a city fox??? i seen soem real healthy stunning foxes in the city an some seriously mangey bags a bones in the countryside, cant tell where a fox has grown up just by the state its in some proper madheeds on this site Mainly because of the combination of being in crap condition and wabdering round a small horse paddock in the middle of the day, with very little fear of a man and his dog. Would pretty much shout CITY FOX DUMPED, to me. But as kieth has now explained, it makes more sense. I don't think the initial assessment is that surprising, without the extra info that kieth has been watching it for some time etc, it's failry common knowledge is it not, that lots of them are dropped off in the counrtyside these days, and usually they are in poor condition, and just wander around lost, until someone kills them. YOu are right though, i have seen some very healthy foxes in cities, and mangy foxes in the country, but on the whole part, all the country foxes i have randimly crossed paths with have run like feck! 1 Quote Link to post
iworkwhippets 13,234 Posted June 7, 2012 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2012 I have watched these 2 cubs grow from day 1, and they along with mother have openly sat and watched me also rabbiting with my whippet, at one stage i got a little to close and they all went to earth, but as soon as the all to familiar squeal of a freshly copt bunny, out they came again, i have pics of my dog and cub a few hundred yards from one another, both going their own way, ok if we get to close the cubs will start to yap so we back off, marvelous to see and be part of, in beautiful surroundings of my permission, strictly a rabbiting man may i add, the foxes dont have to fear me, and it reflects 3 Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,217 Posted June 7, 2012 Report Share Posted June 7, 2012 I love folk taking the piss, but if i said i had seen a fox the other day, broad day light, wandering around a horse paddock, looking confused, in poor condition, with a manky tail etc, and showing no fear of people or dogs, allowing a man and dog to approach it and get close etc without running off. What would your thoughts be? Most of the time it WOULD be a city fox, that's been dumped. The kind that don't run. Quote Link to post
