What colour ferret do people prefer Albino or polecat or something else?

Recommended Posts

I work sandy, silvers and polecat jills all from the same line going back 20 years. I work the light coloured ones early season if the covers still up etc. I keep them well fed and if they do kill and it's deep or in an awkward place they will come off the kill after 10-15 minutes. I always work between 2-9 jills in each warren depending on it's size.

got most colour wise here i have my favourites in amongst them but its not down to the colour its down to the fact some are just better at the job than the rest before the kids were with us the ones that didnt make the grade where moved on as pets or to people who thought they could get em going. best ferret i have every had though was a albino nothing special as far as size or looks went but i would put her against any other ferret for shifting the conies and best bit is she was given to me along with a male of the same strain who also showed the stones for the job sadly i never bred these animals and had them till they died hoping one day to be able to get a similar fert in the gang heres hoping.

Down to eye colour for myself. Dont get me wrong, any colour, make up or sex of ferret can be atrocious or dynamite.

Simply for me the albino's so far get the tick.

They are capable below, (any good ferret is) they are easy to see above, (and easy for any dog to distinguish in a split second what the escapee is) and most of all, due to there dopey nature above ground, (due to there bad albino eyesight.) are the easiest to handle on pickup and entering.

I do wander from the path from time to time, with the odd stray and so on, but thats my take on things.

Chasing a fast black eyed animal with kill in its eye's above ground is something that is not needed on a good days ferreting, (though it happens every now and then!)

I've a polecat and silver. I think the polecats look nicer but I like the silvers as they are easier to see above ground especially with all that cover we have around the start of the season. Doesn't really matter as long as it works thou
