AdamHall 1
its all well and good saying go see the local estate and have a word with the keeper but if as me when i started out where the hell are they that half the problem i found the best thing to do it pop a notice up and ask about at your local clays shoot , go to the local farm supplies and do the same most keepers will us them also in gunshops theres also pubs forum for beaters and pickers up and all the forum like this all have sections with regards beating and picking up so worth a noise on them all , good luck i know how hard it can be to get going but one youve got your foot in the door most beaters will beat on a few shoots so you soon get on a few more mate good luck Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
estates are fairly easy to find mate you dont need to be a detective, youll know where most big estates are by word of mouth, by looking at land MOST pheasant estates large ones anyway you know just by looking at the layout of the woods etc, or the really hard to find clue lol pheasant poults everywhere, good luck anyway mate youll get in see who the local field trial boys etc are keepers are always looking for trustworthy beaters. Clare 33
We do work, alot slate us but how many of them just expected us to wave a magic wand and for beating and picking up to appear, I have one shoot in North Yorks wanting picker ups and game cart driver, there's shoots in Wiltshire, east Yorkshire, Canterbury, north Essex asking for beaters and picker ups and more coming in every week, if anyone wants to speak to us in person about any concerns I personally will be at quiet a few game fairs (I was at Selby and Yorkshire Game Fair) with our next one been CLA pop along and have a chat! we are also working with pass it on to get kids into the countryside instead on computers, there they can try fishing, ferreting, air rifles, clays, preparing pigeon and rabbit and cooking it, also to try beating and other field sport activities so were not all bad! Guest .RoeHare.
there are season waiting lists, get your name on one of them and in a couple of years you will be doing it, or go straight to the keepers on the estates Quote Link to post
