Brian-911 210
I had the pup out today 5months and coming on great. She hasn't seen a thing and I mean nothing until today she spotted a squirrel she looked at it for a few seconds then took a gentle jog up to it (needless to say the squirrel was up the tree straight away) then saw another 15 foot away but just watched it kinda run off instead of making a move. Surprised she didn't take off after it, after all it's ment to be there instinct to chase. Anyone else had this with a pup ? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Don't be concerned mate. A lot of people panic when there pup of 5/6/7/8 months isn't trying to chase anything. Just let it be a pup. Play and bond. It will all come together My pup walked past a cat at 6 months without trying to pull at it and my first thoughts were "he has no prey drive" etc. but it all comes in the end. Gaz. Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
5 months.........lucky the little mite didn't grab it, probably would have bitten the pup pretty bad. its still a baby!!! be patient!! Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
Had this with my old Wheaten cross bitch. She used to watch rabbits run past her; stand by and watch the other dogs snag foxes and she would just sniff them. She fired up on feral cats which had been a problem on one of my farms and then a fox bit her and it was all on. This same dog then used to ricochet around the back of the motor if she saw so much as a squirrel when we were driving onto permission Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354
a nasty bite from a squirrel could set a sensitive pup back months, it has been said but be cool.....let it be a pup continue with the bonding, recall, obedience, retrieving etc and it'll all come good Quote Link to post
