patterdalejoel 669
my incubator is on, set at 45% humidity, but due to how bloody hot and humid it is at the moment its gone up to 55% will this matter? they are chickens and this is for the 18 day period prior to hatching? if it is too humid how do i turn it down, there is no water added, it is just 55% due to the air being humid! any advice welcome, cheers
kyle99 20
is there any vents on the machine, if not take the lid off for a bit, people would advise against it but a hen gets off for a while to eat etc

TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi They will be ok some of my fellow breeders don't use water till the last day so the humidity is what nature says it is,they get very good hatch rates.I put water in all way through, even with vents it's never easy to keep it to a text book figure, don't worry they will be fine,I used to keep checking settings and stuff constantly worrying if the temp was a degree high or the humidity was low when I first started but since then I've experimented with humidity and find as long as its fairly constant the hatch rates don't vary much,on the last 3 days I spray the eggs with a mist of water which helps Atb
burnie69 376
Your humidity is varying because where its placed is varying in temp due to the weather try putting it in a room what stays the same temp.I've lowered mine humidity to 40% up to 18 days then moved it up to 70% for the last 3 days and had really good results this year. What you'll find if the humidity is to high you'll end up with chicks dead in the shell on hatching day because they are growning to big in the shell and the air sack not being big enough for em to break out turn there head around and pip the egg.
