help with hunting rabbits

hi i am new to this forum.

i have been shooting for many years but now have the chance to shoot rabbits. i have shot birds rats ect but rabbits i have found a little tricky. ive got a red lamp and a BSA ultra tactical rifle but cant seem to be close to them to get a clean shot. if i try to move closer i spook them; any ideas.

Feildcraft, the more you practice, the better you get. Just keep getting your self out shooting and you will learn a lot, things you thought impossible will become second nature to you, target shooting hones your shooting skills, but only getting out in the countryside will make you a better shooter, and then one day you will click to the sound of an agitated blackbird thats just blown your cover, these things you wlll only learn by being aware of your suroundings, and you cant be aware if your not out there

Agree with above but also you need to find the active warren and just wait at your maximum zero range from it and wait. Sometimes you might have to wait for hours, other times a matter of minutes! Good luck and welcome!

As above, Fieldcraft and Patience are the two things you need more than your rifle

 

My FC could do with some refinements, but I also fount that if I did scare the Grass Munchers, I could say "oh well!" and then just walk into range get down, sitting, or laying and wait within my range and just wait for them to come out again, not usually that long although they do wise up after a while and the time went from 10/20 minutes to over 45 and eventually longer.

Dont shine the light right at the rabbits, offset it slightly either to the side or in front of the rabbit, this is less likely to spook them. Also a dimmer switch is great so you can keep the light to a minimum until your ready to take the shot.

 

The rest is just practice.

Try a hide net, place near the burrow at your zero range and wait and keep quiet.
