In Owens case I think he was an over exploited resource that they played to death when he was at Liverpool........he was loyal to that club and should have got on his bike long before he did. If he had made the moves to the big clubs earlier, where they had a stronger squad and would not have needed to keep knocking the bollocks out of the kid week in/week out he would have got proper care, rest and brought back to his full potential imho f*****g shame, but I will always maintain that Liverpool ruined that kid.......jmho I don,t know about ruined Wilf , there was a definate difference of opinion on how to handle and treat his hamstring , Owen wanted to go on a special course and build up his thighs to end the problem , Houllier (not unreasonably ) wanted him to do this during the summer , Owen prefered to play for England , as for loyalty , I dunno , he never had a great relationship with Liverpool fans most would have happily took a big chunk of money for him , he was the nations little darling , never ours.
