Wrens Nest

It must have been last sunday, I suppose? I was working in the cow shed, as I have been for some time now, and had just gone in there to start another leg of my renovations. A bird flew out from somewhere and vanished behind something. Curious, I managed to back track with my eyes to where it seemed to have appeared from. Well, I'll be blowed!

I hadn't noticed This one being built!

Wrens Nest

Obviously, when I bent down to peer around my WorkMate, there was a Wren. She seemed a bit confused by my appearance ~ hard to see why. I've been in there for a couple of hours at least, most days for weeks now. But soon made good her 'escape' beneath the main door. I took that oppertunity to have a closer look.

Colourful Neighbours!

Funny little things, birds. I wonder what makes them suddenly decide that the space between to hanks of bailer twine, probably been there for years, is suddenly just the place to build a nest? Bird Brains, I suppose?

Anyway, a quick 'finger test' soon enough, and quite harmlessly, proved what I suspected next to be true: She had eggs in there. Unfortunatley, I was unable to use the focus on my camera at that time and so had to just blindly point the lens into the nest apperture and hope for the best. Best, in this case, being a rather blurred shot. But it does show she had four eggs at that point :) I'd expect about as many again, from a wren. But I'll leave her to it now. No point in risking disturbing her.

Job Half Done, So Far

I shall keep a casual eye on her - as I have been doing. I tend to stop work and stand quietly now, when ever I notice her flighting to or from her nest. Funny how she tries to sneak back to it in a round about way when she finds me in there. But I slow right down and talk to her softly. Encourage her to accept my quite benign presence. Wonder what'll happen when her brood starts to pop out of the nest? I'll keep Small Dog out of there, for sure! And shall have to set some rat and mouse bait stations, just to be sure she's left in total peace

:hmm: Strange. I caught her off the nest again yesterday and so sneaked a shot ..... Four eggs, still. I thought ~ from a life time ago's memory, 'mind ~ they usually laid about seven eggs? Maybe I just remember wrong?

Anyway, I gotta tell ye; It is The Cutest thing, when she's in there! She sits there with her little head poking out! I didn't know they did that! Cracks me up to glance over and see her watching me :)

Anyway, I'll wait till they hatch, or anything else happens round here. Then I'll let ye know.

LOVELY SHOT THERE TBF ,

THE WREN HAS A BEAUTIFUL SONG........ IMO ....

A FEW WEEKS AGO I HAD A SHED DOOR TO PUT ON AT A BRICK BUILT SHED .......... NOTICED A WRENS NEST PARTIALLY FINISHED , NO EGGS SO I SIMPLY MOVED THE NEST OUTSIDE TO THE IVY AROUND THE FRAME .......... NEXT DAY I WAS SORTING WINDOWS OUT AT THE SAME HOUSE , YEP.... JENNY WREN WAS BUSY FINISHING OFF HER ABODE , WITHIN 6 FOOT WAS A DUNNOCKS NEST ABOUT A FOOT FROM THE FLOOR ,

JUST YESTERDAY A FRIEND AND I FOUND NINE WRENS NESTS IN ONE WOODLAND AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS ........... THE BIRDS HAD A CHANCE AS THE WOODLAND IS KEEPERED , I HAVE FOUND IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE IF THE VERMIN SPECIES ARE KEPT IN CONTROL ........

ALL THE BEST

DUCKWING ;)
