riohog 5,920
How long is a piece of string.? It is not as simple as what percentage of saluki should be in dogs to run in ireland or to run the Fens. The make up and quality of the bitch its lines and what it seems to lack in its qualities first has to be considered then what qualities would a saluki lining possibly put into the offspring. The are so many variants even in the saluki lines , some are chase dogs that wear the quarry down before the strike , others are fast cousers. The quarry to be pursued, the terrain to be ran on. It is not a one fits all scenario this is where a lot of linings tend to produce mediocre or inferior dogs a name on a piece of paper doesnt make a dog run faster, lads who have line bred for years from experience should know when the introduction of new blood would be beneficial ,it is a subject that would consume more time than most people have available, the proof of the pudding on linings is see what the progeny of certain lines achieve on the land then balance all factors instead of throwing pot fulls of money at linings that may be incompatible, that makes alot of sence ,but not so easy to achieve , ,here in the u/k while the geene pool ( saluki) is so tight ,choices are limeted . percentage wise in crosses well if you hit the sweet note with the right mix for your needs the jobs a goodun problem is outcrossing can again go either way some prodjeny staying the same some throwing back to a previous time , ,as folk dont keep full litters choises of pups are a bit of a lottery , you might get lucky ,you might not it does take many generations to stamp and prove consistancy in a line ..more time than i have ,,i fear Quote Link to post
