A few years ago I had a £380 bill for some stiches, after a lamping accident, they kept him in over night, but didn't operate till the morning. I complained and they knocked £100 off, as I could have fetched him in the morning and saved £60 over night fee etc. like tomo says, they probally put the price up knowing the insurance will pay.

vet prices vary dramaticly from practice to practice i have several local vets that generally just deal with pets and there prices are crazy and if its an insurance job its even worce , but if you look about you can usualy find better , i uses a vet thats just out of town he was a greyhound vet for years and now his time is split between farm animals and pet and his prices are a lot more realistic and the service is second to none
