NET MAKING

Recommended Posts

now ive been making a few purse nets this week and ive been doing them 18 meshes long (about 3ft) and 13 meshes wide. i was wondering what other people do for the width because ive seen a video wear they were making them 18 meshes wide :icon_eek: seems like a waste of twine to me.

it would be good to hear other poeples views

thanks ;)

edited to say the mesh is 2 1/8" knot to knot

for a 4ft net i knit it as follows

using a 2.1/8 mesh board

9 direct onto ring

another row of 9

take it out to 11

then 13

then 15

then 17

then 19

another 8 rows at 19

back in to 17

then 15

then13

then 11

then 2 rows of 9

this makes a lovely wide purse net at 4ft long, cant see the point of worrying about skimping on twine as a net of this size will only use the same amount of twine as a 3ft net knitted at 15mesh deep straight through. At the end of the day you want to catch rabbits, why make your nets small and risk an escape?

I do mine 11 meshes wide, 4 to 41/2 foot long, 2 1/8" knot to knot, from spun nylon. They seem to work a treat for me

Tried making some shaped ones once with a teat in - like a johny, figurred the rabbits would get meshed up easier. Couldnt figure out how to do it though, any ideas????

(I didnt nick the pic, i changed my name because someone else had one very similiar)
