I am currently setting aside cash on the sly for a 6.5x55 for use as a utility rifle for fox, deer and down the range  I've done a lot of research on the sort of rifle i am getting but the scope is turning out to be more of a minefield as there is simply too much choice :hunter: I'm prepared to pay probably up to a grand for the right thing but it has to be good for the money and be suitable for just about every conceivable situation...

Low light conditions, lamping, woodland stalking (closer shots), open field (longer shots), medium range target etc.

The last thing i really want to do is be mincing around with paralax adjustment and zoom whislt trying to get the jump on a closer than expected deer / fox but these are exactly what i will be wanting for the longer range shots and targets.

Personal choice and opinions appreciated.

I hope the Poll doesn't remind you of a school exam!

Cheers :victory:

Hello LY many answer's to your question's because of personal opinions. Here's mine iv had variable for 12yrs & at first hated but now would never have a fixed power now.My scope's are a S&B 2.5x10x56 & a swarovski 2.5x10x42 & i like both these make's for there len's quality support & warrenty for me exelent.I am now looking at some time to get swarovski 6x24x50 & S&B 4x16x50 & illuminated maybe not sure.My scope's sit at 6/7 power all the time but at paper or to look at beast's way off it's there if i need it.2 of my mate's have swarovski 6x24x50 with TD RET & they are amazine opticaly & have fit im after so they have my vote & in your price range.

Hi Local Yokel

I import a range of scopes into the UK and would offer you either a 4.5-14x50 or a 6-24x50, 30mm one piece tube construction, side focus, illuminated mildot. Try it and if you dont like it get your money back.

All I ask in return is that if you think its great you tell this forum, if you think its crap feel free to do the same.

Im confident I can save you £500+, ive sold 60 of these scopes for everything from bunny bashing to F class target shooting and not one complaint.

Appreciate the info mate. I was all geared up for a nightforce x22 but when i mentioned this in a gun dealership he shot the idea down and was singing the praises of a meopta 7x56 fixed power. Kinda thrown me as he 'talks a good game' it you know what i mean ;) . Its good to see what other people use although i appreciate that everyone has their own reasons...

Hey bud,

Thanks for the reply :victory: what brand of scope do you import? I'd be quite interested but as it will be a pretty expensive (for me) one-off purchase i'd feel more comfortable sticking to a relaible brand with a warranty etc :)

TO local yokel, FIRSTLY i'll say this don't buy what you think will get you by, SECONDLY by a scope with the reticule set in the second focal plane. the crosshairs stay the same size no matter what the mag. setting you select on the scope. my money is on the schimet and bender range or leupold. both of these scopes will do you proud. check out optics zone for the bender range as their prices will not be beat even with all the extra costs of tax import fees etc. I have had both and both are excellent... :clapper: i have a leupold M1 6.5x20x50LR/T MIL DOT and its excellent for both stalking and fox shooting. for a dual purpose scope you have to look at anything in the range of 5x20 power no more as when stalking you need the low mag setting and you have the power to zoom i to 20X when on the hunt for charlie... you won't need any more mag. than this, plus i have a LIFETIME WARRANTY on it.. :thumbs-up: I think the scope retails somewhere in the region of 750 to 800pound stg. in the uk. and it has a 30mm tube on it. I once had a dealer try and sell me a hake target scope for my 6.5x55, and he sold the same to some poor air heads who listened to him only to find it would loose zero on recoil. bender or leupold... get my vote optical clarity is excellent on both.........................HOPE this helped. :hmm: PS. stay away from the nightforce their very poor in low light levels.... thier over-rated and expensive,

I have a nightforce 12-42 x56 nxs, top of the range, £1400 worth, and optically........is shite.

Schmidt and bender, are the best optically, and have a wide variety of models. IOR are also very good indeed, at half the price, but no uk importer at the mo unfortunatly.
