Moll. 1,793
Will they be for showing or pet Tom?
Tom n Sky 16
Potentially both, and a bit of breeding which i hear is quite difficult with these. I suppose there could be a varying difference between bird quality which would be suitable for showing. Do you keep a lot of these birds? Is it right that you never get a set colour from the parents to the chicks? That they could come out any colour? Will look forward to the pics and a pricing for them. Cheers Moll Tom
socks 32,253
What I they like for laying V ...........
Moll. 1,793
What I they like for laying V ........... Nothing with Serama is ever straight forward Socks. They will never lay 7 eggs per week, but do lay on and off all year round, i have not stopped hatching all winter. The better the hen...meaning shape/size, the less the lay, perhaps 2 per week. Other hens up to 5 per week. It take approx (But it depends upon the size of the hen) 3 serama eggs to make one normal eating egg.
socks 32,253
No good for me then lol I will need 60 eggs for a decent omelet ...............

Cheers Moll Tom If you like a challenge Tom, then serama are the birds for you Hatching is very hard as is keeping some alive after they hatched. One positive...serama hens are very broody, stopping them from sitting is the trouble. I have no show standard birds available, they are all spoken for. And you will find this the country over Tom. But i can supply you with birds good enough for breeding potential show stock. Another thing with Serama along with the lack of breeding for colour you can put two mediocre birds together and get a stunner, and vice versa! I have approx 60 birds/growers/chicks. You can have the pet quality birds free of charge Tom, and unless you are planning to show serama i wouldnt bother paying for show or breeder quality, they will have the same fantastic Serama temperement and small size One word of warning, if you are looking at serama on the net, please be aware the British serama are not as extreme as the malaysian serama, you will not get birds looking like that in this country. PM me your email addy, it is easier for me than having to upload pics into photobucket.

Tom n Sky 16
Pm sent Do these birds need a form of heating over winter ? I can house them in a garage or shed for winter if need be
Moll. 1,793
Most of mine live outdoors all through the winter, as long as the coops are completely draft free and dry, it is not a problem. Any young birds will need extra protection. The growers i have for you are in an outdoor coop but with an electric hen to keep the chill out. Edited to add....the ones outdoors are many to a coop to provide body warmth, if you only have 2 or 3 you will need to bring into the shed Edited February 21, 2012 by Moll.
