Ok now im no expert but i have heard been said that you can train almost any dog to do anything....Now i know you get some dog's who will just ignore you and just lie about but i was wondering if it would be possible to teach an Alaskan Malamute to retrive?

 

As some of you know this is a large powerful breed which has very stubborn tendecies...yet i have heard storys of MalamutexGSD retriving and flushing....this could be down to the GSD i susspect....so really i just want to know as im a complete novice and know not alot(to quote paul daniels) on this subject

He thinks himself a bit of a running dog though....love's chasing the bunnies gets close but they just to agile for him lol....dont have the heart to tell him he's got no chance lol

Stevo, you should be able to train it but it's training should of started when it's younger. My mate uses a gsd x greyhound for retrieving as well as it being a normal runner

you will find most "different dogs", will retreave, seen old video stuff of spitz and huskys retreaving....but it was all done inside and with out distractions.

out in a field with scent about and other dogs then...

Thanks for replys guy's.......was thinking about it to keep him busy when im out shooting the rabbits just to keep his mind occupied but i guess it would be asking alot of a pulling dog to do something they not bred for......guess i will be using my mates springer for that job lol

Seen a lot of strange breed retrieving etc it can be done but i dont think they come up to the job like a dog breed for that work
