mole catcher 1
sounds like the nets i and some folk call poke nets i have a few 5.5 ft purse nets that are double peggers(poke nets) for where you have a large hole that has caved away leaving a hole to big for one standard purse net(not that there is a standard size for a purse net) Now, these poke nets i use have rings not sliders fitted and i think they close much faster than a single pegged net because of the two draw cords(this halves the traveling distance of the ring/slider) so in my own opinion i feel it is the fact it is double pegged and not that it is rigged with a slider that is in fact causing them to close faster. Like ive said, this thread is not about proving whos methods are right and whos are wrong,(please remember this folks ) i just wanted to have a good no bull***t debate about an item of kit that is possible as old as the ferret itself. many thanks for everyones input, keep it coming Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
Cheeper, if you work on the figure of say a man earning 10pound an hour and it takes him say 5 mins(as a fast worker) to make each slider he can make 1doz sliders an hour. working on the asumption his a busy man each slider has in fact in time cost him 83p per slider if hes a realy fast worker he can make 24 per hour each slider is costing him 41.5p per slider. times that by 100 for a bag of 100 thats a cost of 45.50p in his time sorry but it takes me 5mins to pick up the phone and ring my supplier and get a bag of 100 heavy steel rings for a cost of less than a tenner delivered to my door. OldTrapCollector 377
MC, I have only ever used steel rings on my nets so I really don't know if I am missing out on something, I will have to make some up on sliders and try them out next winter I suppose. I have never experienced any problems from using rings, and since I normally set my nets with the bottom ring pushed into the ground, I wonder how such a thing is possible with a slider . . . . . . or whether it is unneccessary. Thought provoking thread . . . OTC Quote Link to post
