chrismdd 787
Still no joy with an assistant today, although from my previous threads I may have a couple of contacts for next season, so thanks to those who replied. Anyway it was a bit breezy down here today and not the best combination when you are ferreting by yourself on new permission and all the buries are in thick hedges. Well had a walk around and soon realised that are lot of the warrens were big old 30+ holers that due to the cover would require at least a couple of pairs of eyes watching over them to do them properly. So found a few smaller buries that still required the ability to jump through the hedge when the action was on. Ferreting this sort of terrain on your own seems at least five times harder than when you've got a partner for both setting up and packing away. First couple of buries got a couple which were right in amongst the holly bushes (those rabbits know the best places!). Also the hedge cutters have been through recently and the bottom of all the hedges is a thick pile of broken bramble bits Decided that the best option would be to come back later and pre-clear some buries to make it easier so decided on a quick photo before moving on: However, on walking back found a nice seven holer where I could just about watch all the holes if I buried myself in the middle of the hedge. And so this relatively easy bury yielded another two for the pot. Will definitely need to do some preliminary clearing if I'm to get on top of these buries by myself. Dropping a couple of the rabbits all prepared and jointed together with some nice recipes to the farmer tomorrow and I think the other two we'll be having in a casserole tomorrow. I'll post in the opportunities section that I would be willing to take a novice out if they are keen and would like to learn the art. I was self-taught and know how frustrating it can be to get into with no one for advice (I also had to do the same with river fishing). Chris Quote Link to post
